Frequently asked questions

A few details up front can make the whole job easier. Find practical guidance on part sizes, capacity, lead times and getting your project started with ACS.

WILL MY PART FIT?

Capacity at a glance

Start here, then send the drawing. Part dimensions alone do not confirm suitability: clearance, access, weight, support and the required process matter too.

Getting started

What services does Applied Coating Solutions offer?

ACS provides polymer and fluoropolymer coatings, rubber linings, industrial and mil-spec painting, powder coating, rubber-to-metal bonding adhesive application, moly and dry film lubricant coatings, electropolishing, citric passivation, fabrication, and media blasting. We can review preparation and finishing together for one part or recurring production.

Where is ACS located, and do you accept work from outside Pennsylvania?

We are a family-owned business at 3152 W 22nd St, Erie, PA 16506. We accept inquiries from customers nationwide, including eligible small stainless parts for rush electropolishing. Confirm the scope, delivery arrangements and schedule with ACS before shipping.

Nationwide rush service
Can you handle a single part as well as production orders?

Yes. We review individual components, repeat batches and ongoing production. Share the quantity per shipment, expected repeat volume and required delivery dates so we can review the appropriate processing route and available capacity.

What information should I send for a quote?

Include a drawing or clear photographs, part number and revision, quantity, material, overall dimensions and weight, starting condition, required coating or finish, masking areas, inspection requirements and your deadline. For chemical service, include the chemical, concentration and operating temperature. Tell us whether stripping, repairs, pickup or return shipping are needed.

Part sizes & capacity

What is the largest part ACS can process?

There is no single size limit for every ACS service. Oven fit, access to the surface, hanging and support, lifting needs, part weight and the selected process all affect acceptance. Use the capacity table above as a planning guide, then send a drawing showing the complete part envelope, including flanges, blades and projections.

What are your powder and polymer coating size limits?

Our published batch-processing capacity is up to 196 inches long by 74 inches in diameter, with batch and high-speed line oven capabilities. This is a starting point for review, not a guaranteed fit for every coating system. Hanging clearance, geometry, part weight and cure requirements must be confirmed. Call us about longer parts.

Polymer coating capabilities
How large a part can you rubber line?

Our published shop lining capacity is up to 12 feet wide by 40 feet long. Larger equipment can be reviewed for field lining. Access, surface condition, handling and the required cure method determine the practical limits for each project.

Rubber lining capabilities
What are your fabrication and specialty machining limits?

Our published specialty machining capacity includes parts up to 36 inches in diameter and 20 feet in length. Fabrication work includes shafts, pipe spools and specialty alloy components. Send the drawing, tolerances, material and inspection requirements; the dimensions alone do not establish whether a job is suitable.

Fabrication capabilities
Do you have a maximum electropolishing part size or batch weight?

Contact ACS with the part dimensions, weight, stainless grade and quantity. Electropolishing eligibility and batch size are reviewed for the individual job. Confirm larger, hollow or complex parts before shipment; the small-parts rush service does not establish the capacity for every electropolishing project.

Electropolishing capabilities
Can you process heavy parts or tell me your available production capacity?

Send the individual part weight, lifting points, center-of-gravity information when relevant, quantity and delivery schedule. Weight limits are specific to the equipment and operation. Available production slots also change with the work mix; ACS confirms handling and scheduling during quotation rather than promising a universal daily or weekly output.

Lead times & rush work

What are your typical lead times?

As an initial planning guide, typical ranges previously used by ACS are 7–14 days for rubber lining, 7–10 days for powder coating, 5–10 days for moly and dry film lubricant work, and about four weeks for combined fabrication and electropolishing or passivation projects. These are estimates, not current availability or guaranteed delivery dates. ACS confirms the applicable timing and how days are counted when quoting the job.

When does my lead time start?

Confirm the start point with ACS when placing the order. Scheduling depends on the agreed scope, material availability, part arrival and condition, approved drawings or specifications, and any required customer decisions. Tell us both when the parts can arrive and when they need to be back in service.

How does 24-hour electropolishing work?

Twenty-four-hour electropolishing is available for eligible small stainless parts after ACS confirms the part, quantity, starting condition, processing and inspection requirements, arrival time and available capacity. The agreed processing window starts at the time confirmed by ACS. An inquiry alone does not reserve a slot. Call before shipping.

Review rush service
Does 24-hour turnaround include shipping?

No. Processing turnaround and transportation are separate. Agree on the arrival time, processing commitment, carrier and return shipping arrangements before sending the parts.

Can coatings, rubber linings or repair work also be expedited?

Ask us about rush Kynar, Halar, Tefzel and PFA coatings, other industrial finishes, and emergency rubber-lining repairs. Availability depends on preparation, application, cure, inspection and the production schedule. These services do not automatically qualify for 24-hour completion.

Discuss expedited options

Coatings, preparation & inspection

Which polymer and fluoropolymer coatings do you offer?

Capabilities include PTFE/Teflon, PFA, ETFE/Tefzel, ECTFE/Halar, PVDF/Kynar, PVC, polyethylene (PE) coatings, polypropylene (PP) coatings and epoxy polymers. The suitable system depends on the substrate, service environment, chemical exposure, temperature, geometry and specification. Send your operating conditions so ACS can review the application.

Compare coating options
Which blasting media are available?

Capabilities include garnet, aluminum oxide and glass bead, plus shot peening. Provide the required cleanliness, surface profile or cosmetic finish, the substrate and the finish that will follow. Identify threads, sealing faces, fits and other areas that must be protected.

Media and parts blasting
Can you strip or repair an existing coating or lining?

Existing finishes and damaged linings can be reviewed for stripping, repair or replacement. Send photos, the existing material if known, service history and any contamination information. ACS confirms the preparation and repair scope after reviewing the condition; not every finish or damaged area is suitable for local repair.

What inspection and documentation can you provide?

Inspection is agreed for the coating system and project. It can include visual inspection, coating thickness measurements, spark testing where specified, and drawing or dimensional checks for fabrication and machining. Identify the required acceptance criteria, reports and certificates at quotation so they can be included in the scope.

Quality and inspection
Can you work to my drawing or coating specification?

Send the current specification and drawing revision with your inquiry. ACS reviews the process, material, masking, acceptance criteria and documentation before confirming the work. Electropolishing to ASTM B912 and citric passivation to AMS 2700 and ASTM A967 are listed capabilities; the applicable requirements must be confirmed for your order.

Shipping & placing an order

What should I confirm before shipping parts?

Obtain confirmation of the scope, quote or order reference, arrival arrangements, required completion date and return transport. Include a packing list with your contact information, part numbers and quantities. Tell ACS about contamination or hazardous residues before shipment and agree on any preparation needed.

Can I use my UPS account for return shipping?

Customer-account UPS shipping can be discussed for eligible small-parts work. Confirm the account, service level, packaging and return destination with ACS before sending parts. Large or heavy work needs separate freight and handling arrangements.

What if I do not know which service or coating to choose?

Tell us what the part does, what it is made from and what is causing the problem. Photos, drawings, wear or corrosion history, operating conditions and your deadline help us discuss the options. Call 814-833-7870 or send an inquiry to start the review.
